The Blue Kitchen was a project for a friend who had just moved into a home with a poorly designed, dated kitchen. We worked closely together to rethink the space, focusing first on how she will use it day to day. Lizi enjoys cooking with a glass of wine in the evenings and wanted the space to have good flow while being a relaxing space to be in, furthermore it was a priority to have a dishwasher and a large fridge despite the small space. We worked to these specifications making sure that every detail was laid out practically, increasing space and storage while also fitting the essentials. Once we’d refined the layout considering how to make the most of the limited space we moved on to materials and colours.

Lizi isdrawn to Mediterranean interiors, so we used that as a starting point, weaving it in subtly in a way that felt natural rather than overdone. A combination of white quartz, blue cabinetry, and stone flooring set the foundation, with ceramic blue-and-white pottery adding those more characterful touches. The end result is a kitchen that feels fresh and functional and most importantly a space she enjoys spending time in.
