This lovely Victorian flat hadn’t been updated since the 1970s, and many of its original features had been lost—crown mouldings removed, the fireplace bricked in. To honour the architecture and restore its character, we reintroduced those details, including a beautiful mahogany fire surround.The clients already had an impressive collection of art and furniture, including an original Terence Conran armchair, which helped shape the overall mood and direction of the design. Soft, muted greens, golds, and browns—drawing on a mid-’60s palette—were the perfect choice for a room with limited natural light. These tones brought warmth while complementing the clients’ existing mid-century pieces. Layered, ambient lighting carried that warmth through the space, creating a cosy atmosphere for evenings.​To balance the mid-century feel, I introduced antique pieces sourced from French brocantes, along with playful, eclectic patterns across cushion covers, lampshades, and throws. The clients’ existing footstool was also reupholstered in a ticking stripe.

​The finished space feels warm, layered, and full of character—reflecting the clients’ practical needs while beautifully showcasing their artwork and signature pieces.
